CNN —The 2024 NFL Draft drew to a close on Saturday as 257 players were selected by teams from across the league, all hopeful of a bright career lying before them. The 137 selections between Thursday’s first round and Saturday’s fifth round set a record for the longest drought without a quarterback being picked in NFL Draft history. Other offensive players popularInterest in offensive players was high throughout the draft and it was an especially good few days for wide receivers and offensive linemen. CNN —Vontae Davis, the former NFL cornerback who made two Pro Bowls with the Indianapolis Colts and memorably retired at halftime of his final game, was found dead by police at his home in South Florida, according to authorities. Davis, 35, played in 121 games over a 10-year career with the Miami Dolphins, Colts and Buffalo Bills, totaling 22 interceptions and 97 pass deflections. “The NFL is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Vontae Davis. “We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of former Dolphins CB Vontae Davis and extend our deepest condolences to his family & loved ones during this difficult time,” the Dolphins said. Hortiz has agreed to terms to become the Los Angeles Chargers general manager, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. He started as an area scout in 1998 and has been the Ravens director of player personnel for seven seasons. New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown was the only other candidate to get a second interview. He will be the first former Chargers player to return to the team as head coach. The Chargers are the fourth of eight teams to fill their head coach job, following New England, Las Vegas and Tennessee. Manuel may promote Sherrone Moore to replace Harbaugh after the offensive coordinator filled in for him during the final three games of the regular season.
